Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, in Cape Town, has a magnificent location at the foot of Table Mountain.
The gardens were established in 1913 with the purpose of preserving some of South Africa's indigenous plants. To this day the gardens focus almost exclusively on indigenous plants.
One interesting feature of Kirstenbosch is a conservatory featuring a variety of plants that would not normally survive in the Cape weather.
Besides the magnificent gardens there is an excellent restaurant. A stage in the gardens is used to host music concerts at various times during the year.
