Haenertsburg is a quiet and picturesque village on the R71 road between Tzaneen and Polokwane. It is located amongst an exapanse of forests and mountains.

Despite much of the grassland in the area being replaced by timber plantations some of the unique grassland remains. They are known for their diversity of plant species.

The village is popular with tourists who enjoy the peace and the opportunities afforded by the surrounding countryside. Popular activities include fishing, hiking and cycling. One can also do adventure sports at George's Valley Gorge. The nearby Ebenezer Dam offers opportunities for watersports.

There is a variety of accommodation available in Haenertsburg and in the surrounding countryside.
