The Wildebeest's Review of The Whales of Walker Bay

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

“The Whales of Walker Bay” is a great book and the result of one person’s passion for these large mammals. Author Noel Ashton is a naturalist, artist and now author.

The book is published in a horizontal format, which I assume is to allow the whales to be illustrated in the best possible way. Although the book does have some photographs, it is Noel’s paintings and drawings, which dominate each page. There is no need for these illustrations to be in colour, as colour doesn’t play an important role in identification. It is all about shape and habits.

There are only three species included in “The Whales of Walker Bay.” They are the Southern Right Whale, Humpback Whale and Bryde’s Whale.

Overall, this book will add to anyone’s knowledge of whales and will certainly assist those who are lucky enough to see one of these whales from near or from far.
