OK, it’s too late to worry about the public holidays. They came and went, and I hope that you had some great trips to interesting places. So, what happened in South Africa in 2016? Here are a few highlights and reminders.- Jacob Zuma is president.
- Droughts hit all South Africa’s provinces except for Gauteng. They are all declared as disaster areas.
- Wayde van Niekerk broke the world record for the 400 metres.
- Desmond Tutu turned 85.
- Mamelodi Sundowns win the CAF Cup.
- New Zealand with the Rugby Championship. South Africa finished third.
- The Free State Cheetahs win the Currie Cup beating the Blue Bulls 36-16.
- The Hurricanes beat the Lions 20-3 to win the Super Rugby final.
