Hluhluwe is a small town situated near to Hluhluwe Game Reserve and False Bay. This town is probably the best located as a base to visit the best game reserves in Zululand. These include Hluhluwe Game Reserve, iMfolozi Game Reserve, Mkuze Game Reserve. There are also a number of small game reserves within easy reach as well. False Bay is just down the road and other parts of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park are not too far either.

Hotels and lodges in the area organise game-viewing safaris into the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. You can be picked up and dropped off at your hotel.

The farms around the town grow most of the pineapples produced in South Africa. Other items produced in the area include pineapples, sisal, sugar cane, cattle and timber.

The name Hluhluwe originates from the Zulu word for the thorny climbing plants found growing along the nearby Hluhluwe River.
