Howick is a small town sited on the Umgeni River at the top of Howick Falls
Howick Falls are a major attraction in Howick. Here the Umgeni River drops 95 metres into the valley below. There is an excellent view site on the edge of the town and there are many curio stalls and other interesting shops nearby. It is well worth taking the hour's drive from Durban to visit here.
Another water-related attraction near Howick is Midmar Dam. The Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve is also just down the road.
Accommodation in HowickThe town's history dates back to around 1850 when the Natal Government offered allotments for sale near a river crossing point just above the falls.
