KwaZulu-Natal

Pongola is a small town situated in the north of KwaZulu-Natal. Although it isn't a border post it is located very near the border between South Africa and Swaziland.

The surrounding countryside is dominated by hills and sugarcane farms. Some subtropical fruits are also farmed in the area. An irrigation system was implemented in the 1930's in the area.

The N2 highway runs through Pongola and the town provides a focal point for commercial activity in the region.

The town gets its name from the Phongola River which runs nearby.
