The town of Underberg is located in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal. Hlogoma Peak, which is 1,904 metres high, is located nearby.
The region is an important dairy and beef farming area and farming is the number one economic activity of Underberg.
Accommodation in UnderbergTourism is the second-most important economic activity. The town is the "gateway" to the southern Drakensberg and many beautiful places can be reached within a few hours drive.
Sani Pass is a beautiful but challenging drive up to Lesotho. It can only be undertaken in a 4x4 vehicle. The pass is a lifeline to many residents of Lesotho with trucks travelling down the pass to get supplies in Underberg.
