The Wildebeest's Review of The Gardener SA Magazine - February 2020

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

Summer continues and so does COVID! There are so many restrictions being placed on us but at least one can enjoy one’s garden. So, what tips are in this issue of The Gardener magazine?

I always to like to see what tree has been selected as “Tree of the Month.” I look to see if it is a perfect match for my small garden. This month’s tree has a rather scary name! It is the Sweet-scented Dune Poison-bush. That sounds like it is going to lure you closer with its sweet scent then poison you. The scientific name is Acokanthera oblongifolia.

Have you ever considered growing a bonsai Acacia tree? Reading the article on page 29 got me thinking if now is the time to take the plunge and get a bonsai tree of my own. I also enjoyed the article on Sedums. These succulents are hardy and come in a range of shapes and colours.

Us South Africans love to braai and the article entitled “Lamb on the Menu” caught my eye! Well, it’s lunch time, so I will end my review of that tasty note.
