The Wildebeests Review of Guide to Frogs & Toads of the Vredefort Dome

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

The Vredefort Dome is a massive impact meteor site that is just over 30,000 hectares in size. There is growing tourist interest in this area, and it makes sense, I suppose, to document the frogs and toads found here.

This is a very glossy publication with thick pages. It is laid out attractively and contains plenty of colour photographs. The 17 species of frogs and toads found in the Vredefort Dome are covered in detail.

Each species account features photos of the adult, habitat, identification features, and various images of the tadpoles. The write-ups have information on the identification of the species, etymology, habitat, distribution, breeding, call, and the tadpoles.

I think that this is a worthwhile publication to add to your collection of nature books and be sure to take it with you if you go walking or hiking in this fascinating area.
