The Wildebeest's Review of Tortoises, Terrapins & Turtles of Africa

The Wildebeest reviewing a book

Tortoises have always held a fascination for me. When I was young, I had a collection of them. I didn’t go and collect them – they just arrived from “kind” people who found a tortoise wherever. Today I know better and just enjoy seeing them in the wild.

This book is compact and packed with information on all of Africa’s tortoises, terrapins, and turtles. The section on each species includes a comprehensive write-up which includes information on how to identify them, their distribution, habitat preference and biology. A distribution map accompanies each write-up as does several colour photos showing various features. A short section on the conservation status accompanies each species account.

The first 29 pages of the book cover all aspects of tortoise biology and make for interesting reading. Overall, this book is a welcome addition to the reptile section of my personal library and it deserves a place on your bookshelf.
